The day is fast approaching, and like most of us, you’re procrastinating. With so much to do before moving, it definitely helps to start early. Here’s a recommended timeline to help make the process as easy as possible:
3-4 Weeks Before Move Date
Research moving companies and make your reservation. Summertime is the busiest time for moving, so scheduling in advance can definitely save you a headache later.
Pick up some boxes (cardboard or plastic). Begin packing a box or two per day, starting with items you will definitely not need prior to moving. Starting early and packing in small increments helps maintain motivation.
Big Easy's Moving will gladly provide you with some boxes to help out, just give us a call!
2 Weeks Before Move Date
Begin saying goodbye to neighbors and nearby friends that you will likely see less often after the move.
1 Week Before Move Date
Cut back on grocery shopping. Ideally, you want to finish eating everything left in your freezer, and as much as possible from your refrigerator.
Call your utility companies to schedule the cutoff times, and transition these utilities to your new home as needed.
Mail your change of address form to the USPS.
Clean stove, fridge, and any other items that are staying behind. You’ll likely need to clean them again after a week’s worth of use, but this second cleaning will be easier than the first.
1 Day Before Move Date
Pack remaining items, leaving essentials available for easy access. Pretend you are packing for a short vacation and you need a couple changes of clothes, your wallet, and toiletries, etc. Everything that isn’t in this bag should be packed in boxes ready for the movers. Similar sized boxes should
Defrost your freezer.
Call the moving company to confirm the time the movers will arrive. This is mostly for peace of mind
Hours Before Movers Arrive
Pack remaining items in fridge into a cooler.
Relax! Your job is done for now.
